Brew Haven Monthly Minutes for 7/25

Brew haven meeting minutes for Wednesday July 25.

 

Suggestions on beer calendar to make it more refined and to include unique talk on particular style including BJCP guidelines.

Issac Suggested to record meeting minutes and post them on fb and site

We all agreed that if you have an idea for an event, process, etc. run it by the club at a meeting and then run with it.

  •  A great example of how well this works is Colin and the homebrew Olympics.

Suggestions to clean up website. 

  •  Removed unused forum and private messages

Recap of the fat orange cat tour.. They are a small brewery that does brew in a bag (BIAB) for all of their in house beers.  It was agreed that small brewery tours definitely relate well to home brewers. 

 

New haven land trust Beer and Oyster Fest Sunday September 16 at the Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven at the carousel

 

The Southern New England Regional Homebrew Competition (SNERHC) at Two Roads Brewery is on Sunday October 28. This is event is annually hosted by the Underground Brewers of Connecticut.

  •  It is guaranteed that you will receive solid feedback for entering a beer in the competition.
  •  Volunteer to be a stewart or a judge if you’re confident

 

 

Andy mentioned about hosting a home brew competition. Possibly a CT home brew only event

 

Pat mentioned a competition in the works at No Worries brewing in Hamden. More info forthcoming

 

Brew Haven internal competition. Pale Beer (No IPA) Competition Wednesday October 24

Competition Rules
All Brew Haven members are eligible to enter.
Must submit one 64 oz growler (or equivalent volume) to be eligible for judging.
Beer must be pale in color (less than 8 SRM).
To cut down on an already popular style, and to encourage exploration of other great beer styles, no IPAs will be accepted for judging in this competition.
Beer must be brewed to a BJCP style for judging purposes.
Entries will be judged by meeting attendees.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three beers.
All entries need to be registered electronically with organizer by Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

Isaac suggested exploring the use of QR codes for giving feedback on beer at meetings and during competitions

Isaac brewed an American wheat with kolsch yeast

Brooks brewed a German Hefeweizen

Sean brewed a honey wheat which won the beer of the month.  Congrats, Sean! His recipe will be posted in the Featured beers section of our site.
